I second your toast, Laura. Denise has been on my mind all day. We spent a few of her birthdays together - dinner on the Nautical Mile around the corner from our house and also at this great eclectic restaurant in Sea Cliff, Tupelo Honey.
However, her last birthday here on Earth, I completely forgot! When I realized my forgetfulness a week or two later and called her, she was her typical sweet self and of course told me "no worries".
We have the luxury of having several phone messages from Denise on our answering machine at home. It doesn't matter what she's saying. It's just nice to hear her voice, the always cheerful "Hey, Ruth" greeting, even when she wasn't feeling well.
I think I'll go home and play it tonight.
Happy Birthday in Heaven, Denise! You are missed.
