My partner and I were privileged to hear Ms. Broadhurst's Scherzo (1996). It was expertly and intimately performed in Astoria, by The Barbad Chamber Orchestra, Ramin Heydarbeygi, Director. Talented musicians were Yonah Zur, violin, Summer Boggess, violoncello, and Barbara Podgurski, piano.
We two were overwhelmed by the beauty, immense talent, and the many paths opened up, never to be taken.
Ms. Broadhurst lives on in her music in her family and friends.
DENISE BROADHURST JUNE 11th 1970 - SEPTEMBER 19th 2008
We are heartbroken over the loss of Denise Broadhurst who passed away Friday September 19th after a long and a courageous battle with breast cancer. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by family and close friends. Denise was a wonderful daughter and sister, a good friend, and a gifted musician.
Denise was a truly remarkable person; she was infinitely kind, had a fantastic wit, and her generous spirit enriched the lives of the people around her.
Denise has always had a passion for music; from punk rock to classical, music was her life.
She was a beloved and dedicated teacher and has been selected to receive the State University of New York's Chancellor Award for Excellence in Teaching. As a tenured Assistant Professor of music at Nassau Community College and adjunct at Hosftra University she shared her love of music with her students. Her many compositions and performances will be here forever as a gift to us all.
Denise, you have touched so many lives. You are loved by many around the world.
We miss you and always will.......
This will be a place to go to share stories, photos and music in remembrance of Denise and her life that touched us all.
Details such as memorials and recitals being held for Denise in both Minneapolis and New York City and other such information will be listed on this Blog.
Unfortunately we do not have everyone's email addresses, please feel free to forward this Blog to anyone who knew Denise.
Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.
